Japanese maple trees grow wild across the hills of Japan-and across other countries like Korea and Russia as well. These maples can definitely thrive in city gardens as they are low maintenance and require minimal pruning. It can be found in the Eastern North American region where both its parent species live. It can thrive in both full sun and partial shade but definitely needs moist, slightly acidic, and well-drained soil. This type of maple is a naturally occurring hybrid maple that’s a cross between both the Acer saccharinum and Acer rubrum species.įreeman maples can grow up to 60 feet tall and about 40 feet wide. Freeman mapleįreeman maple trees are also known as Acer x freemanii. They are from the eastern deciduous forest but can thrive as far as Texas! 3. However, ensure it’s free from the shade if you want to see it reach its full potential. While this particular tree prefers moist soils and sun, it can and will remain strong in the face of cold weather. Most red maple leaves remain red all year round but definitely not all. Red maple leaves are known to be V-shaped and have three-lobed leaves with dips in between. It’s known as the Acer rubrum species and can grow up to 60 feet tall and 20-30 feet wide. The red maple tree is known for its prominent, beautiful red leaves. It’s native to Eastern North America but that does not mean it can’t be planted elsewhere! 2. It makes for a beautiful landscape but doesn’t do great around urban pollutants. Sugar maple leaves can be orange, red, and yellow. If you’re seeking a maple that has a wide range of beautiful colors when it comes to fall foliage, this type of maple tree delivers. You may recognize one red maple leaf in particular because one proudly blazes on the Canadian flag as Canada is known for its generous maple syrup. Sugar maples can sometimes grow up to 150 feet tall in exceptional conditions, making them one of the largest types of maple trees. Sugar maple trees are of the species Acer saccharum and can grow over 80 feet tall and 60-80 feet wide. As you may be able to guess, the sugar maple tree is known for being the source of maple syrup production.

Your movement serial number may not be in exactly the same location as the one in the photo, but you are looking for the serial number that is on the watch mechanism itself. You usually have to take the back off the watch case to see the movement serial number which may appear anywhere on the watch movement. Cases and watches were often made by different companies and each usually has its own serial number. not the serial number from the watch case. the working part with the wheels and gears. You must use the serial number from the MOVEMENT of the watch. Since your serial number falls between those two numbers, you know that your watch was made in 1917 or 1918. Looking at the table of Waltham serial numbers (see example below), you can see that number 20,900,000 was made in 1917 and 21,800,000 was made in 1918 (marked in red in the table below). Note that we're using the serial number from the watch movement, not from the watch case. Let's say you have a Waltham watch with serial number 21,607,210 as shown in the photo below. So to determine when your watch was manufactured, you will need to find where your serial number fits within the range of numbers. that would make some really long pages! Our serial number tables list RANGES of serial numbers. Many watch companies made hundreds of thousands of watches, and some companies made millions of watches! It would be impractical to list the individual serial numbers of EVERY watch made. Can't find YOUR exact serial number in our lookup tables? Most vintage Swiss pocket watches did NOT have serial numbers and can't be dated by this method. Some American watch brands did not use a consistent series of serial numbers, but most of the big manufacturers did. Not all vintage watches can be dated using the serial number. You should consult the serial number table for the specific brand of watch movement you are trying to date by selecting a company from the menu on the left. The example below uses information from the American Waltham Watch Company, but that is just an example. It’s important not to place too much pressure on the Puck – you only need light to medium pressure for it to be effective.Ĭontinue the small overlapping circles all along the edge to be sharpened. As you can see, a Cold Steel machete has quite a wide cutting edge, it’s at least 5mil, so getting the right contact between the edge and the puck is easy. Please note that blade edges are angled and it is important that the movements take this angle into account by angling the Puck against the blade to match. Gripping the Puck firmly in one hand and the machete in the other, whilst making sure that no fingers are protruding over the edge of the Puck, use small, overlapping circular motions to rub against the blade edge. It’s also great for other tools you might find in the garden shed, like lawnmower blades, axes and the like. This one product is all you need to keep that machete in good working order. One side has a coarse grit, the other a medium grit. It’s a circular double-sided sharpening stone. Our chosen tool for this kind of sharpening and maintenance is The Puck by Lansky. Then after using the coarse grit, using a medium grit and repeating the sharpening technique will get you a good usable edge. Close up of a brand new, unused Cold Steel machete with a few small burrs on the edgeįirst, use a coarse grit to remove burrs, get rid of dings and clean up any chips the machete may have suffered. Sometimes, a brand-new machete can also have burrs, so getting used to basic maintenance right from the start is a great idea. As you are not looking for a super fine edge, a coarse/medium sharpening combo would be more than adequate. There are so many different sharpening tools out there but many of them would be wholly unsuitable. The best method for keeping a good, usable edge is to use the right tool for the job. So, what is the best way to maintain a usable edge on a Cold Steel machete? Of course, the more you use it, the more maintenance it will need so learning the best method right at the outset will pay dividends in the long run. You need to be able to keep a usable edge on a machete, whether it’s brand new or you’ve been using it for years. The fact is that a Cold Steel machete is a tool that you simply must be able to maintain yourself, just because of the type of work it’s going to be doing. A machete needs a usable, tough edge, not a super fine one. If they came with a razor sharp, super fine edge like you would get on a Cold Steel knife, it’d be just too prone to damage and it would blunt too quickly. They are just not designed for the same tasks as a knife. Secondly, a machete is a heavy-duty, low cost tool designed for chopping and clearing. This is not the same process as making the high-end, quality knives that Cold Steel puts out. where they run each blade through a sharpener to achieve what they call a good utility edge. The machete blades are stamped out of a sheet of 1055 medium carbon steel, they’re then given a rough edge and shipped to Cold Steel in Ventura, CA. Well done, you made a great choice.īut let’s get something straight right from the get go – the edge you get on a brand new Cold Steel machete isn’t going to be as good as you would get on a Cold Steel knife. So you’ve just got your brand new Cold Steel Machete. Yeah, I know this isn't a tech support forum, but there are some pretty knowledgeable people here. I plan to test this weekend on a mac, which should give me an indication as to whether the issue is with the unit, or somehow with the installation (which I tried probably more than 5 times last night and this morning. I can see the indicators on the machine register midi in, and then (from memory) port A out seems to be registering, but the actual midi isn't reaching the software.Īnyone expert on this, that might have some ideas as to what might be the issue? I really want one of these, and don't want to spend $500 or so on a new one. Shouldn't I get one if I add/remove programs, delete any files I find, etc? In any case, the computer seems to recognize the mtp av, but only to a point. But what concerned me, though he seemed to pay it no heed, was that I have not been able to get any dialogue at all about installing new hardware. The tech rep had me initialize the mtp to factory settings, and claimed that the midi should now just work. Disconnecting from the mtp av, and connecting to the micro lite fixes all midi issues. They use (confirmed by support) the exact same drivers, of which I have the latest. I had 2 motu micro lites installed previously, which I disconnected so as to simplify things. I cannot get any actual midi communication to take place in the applications. however the latter gives me an error that it can't communicate. It shows up by name in my applications, and the accompanying Clockworks application shows it by name. I've dutifully gone through uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, rebooting.everything I can think of. I cannot install it successfully on my windows xp, sp 2 machine. Use a recommended diesel engine cleaner for satisfactory results. With continued use, a marine diesel engine will accumulate debris that can clog it if not removed. How do you flush your inboard marine engine?įlushing is one way to ensure your power engine stays in good condition for a long while. Always inspect the corrosion resistance on your diesel boat after fitting in stainless steel engine accessories. Over time, the corrosion will eat away at the exposed metal, which results in pitting. Exposed metal surfaces below the waterline are layered with a white powdery substance. Paint blistering and peeling indicates galvanic corrosion, which usually begins at the sharp edges. The degree of corrosion, however, will depend on the care and maintenance you give to the vessel. Marine corrosion is a problem that every diesel boat owner has to be ready for. What causes sterndrive paint to peel or blister? Manufacturers manipulate the wake of V-drives to cater to various activities by creating unique designs and adding ballast and surf systems. The wake offered by this type of marine engine makes it suitable for marine sports like surfing, kneeboarding, and skiing.
And when you’re walking down the back alley in the dark with a lighter to barely see in front of you while there is blood all over the ground… that genuinely gave me the same kind of chills I get when watching someone walk around a dark basement in a horror film. In the same ‘survival horror’ genre as Resident Evil, except Silent Hill takes the ‘horror’ element a little bit higher with the creepy fog everywhere and a missing little daughter that creepily keeps walking into the spooky fog while you chase after her. All 4 Tomb Raiders on the PS1 seem about the same level of playability, but, for whatever reason, part 2 seems to have caught my desire to play the most, so that’s the one I’m adding to my Top Shelf recommendations list (but consider this a nod to the whole series). But, once you get used to the controls, it starts becoming a bit addictive trying to figure out how to make your way thru a level (even if the graphics sometimes make it a bit hard to see those damn spiders that keep biting me or where the edge of the next cliff is). Less ‘run around shooting things’ and a lot more ‘looking around for things to climb on and jump to’. Since it was such a big franchise in the pop culture, I was of course familiar with the games existence & general concept, I even saw a trailer or two for the movies that followed, but when I actually got around to trying the series out all these years later, the gameplay was a lot different than what I was expecting. I had a PS1 for the last stretch of my high school years, but I never got around to playing any of the Tomb Raider games back then. AND NOW THAT WE’VE GOT ALL THE EXPLAINERS & DISCLAIMERS OUT OF THE WAY… HERE’S MY LIST OF 36 PLAYSTATION ONE GAMES THAT ARE STILL FUN TO PLAY TODAY: This is just a list of games that I still find personally enjoyable playing as an elder millennial in the 2020s & the ones that I find myself reaching for most often + it should be noted that I don’t really care much for fighting games or button-mashing beat ‘em ups or too-much-on-the-screen-at-one-time shooters or turn based strategy RPG games (no matter how ‘critically acclaimed’ they are on the Youtubes & Reddits). Please keep in mind that this list is not really in a ranked order and it is definitely not an attempt at creating a “best PS1 games ever” list ( so prepare to adjust your “how could you not include _?!” outrage appropriately). So, since I also did a lot of searching for “best ps1 games” or “most underrated ps1 games” or “ps1 games that are still worth playing today” or “hidden gem ps1 games” once I was done googling the same “how to hack a sega mini” queries that have been directing people to my blahg quite consistently, I figured I should put together some console specific lists too… because SEO, innit? More recently, I’ve been noticing that my most visited website pages, month after month, were my blog posts about retro video gaming (even though I am very clearly a ‘ not a music blog, not not a music blog’), and most of those visits were coming from Google’rs. I guess that’s why they say hindsight is 2020. And once one goes down that online retro video gaming rabbit hole, one eventually realizes that one could have been playing any old retro video game right on one’s old iMac the whole time. This was heavily influenced by me ordering a Sega Mini to hook up to the tv I won at a Super Bowl party right before the world went on a never-ending lockdown quarantine, but the thing that really kicked the new hobby up a notch was realizing that that Sega Mini could be hacked to add any old retro video game from any old retro video game console. As I mentioned in my other top/fave retro video games lists, 2020 was the year I got back into playing retro video games from my youth.
